This is blow your mind out excitement.
Day 3 Flight to Chitawan
We’ll have a morning flight to Chitawan.
Since the end of the 19th century Chitwan – Heart of the Jungle – used to be a favourite hunting ground for Nepal’s ruling class during the cool winter seasons. Comfortable camps were set up for the feudal big game hunters and their entourage, where they stayed for a couple of months shooting hundreds of tigers, rhinos, elephants, leopards and sloth bears.
When poor farmers from the mid-hills moved to the Chirwan Valley in search of arable land, the area was subsequently opened for settlement, and poaching of wildlife became rampant. In 1957, the country’s first conservation law protected rhinos and their habitat.
Day 4 Chitawan
By the end of the 1960s, 70% of Chitwan’s jungles had been cleared, malaria eradicated, thousands of people had settled there, and only 95 rhinos remained. The dramatic decline of the rhino population and the extent of poaching prompted the government to institute the Gaida Gasti – a rhino reconnaissance patrol of 130 armed men and a network of guard-posts all over Chitwan.
On our stay in Chitawan we’ll go on safari enjoying jungle and elephant rides. Chitwan National Park is home to 68 mammal species so we’ll see many of them. We’ll also have a tour of the villages of Chitawan and learn about their cultures.
You might even be very lucky and see a Bengal tiger, the “king of the jungle”. The alluvial floodplain habitat of the Terai is one of the best tiger habitats anywhere in the world.
Day 5 Flight to Pokhara and drive to Dhampus (1,650m)
After breakfast we’ll get an early morning flight to Pokhara. We’ll drive from there to the very beautiful Nepali village of Dhampus and spend some time enjoying the views and scenery. Dhampus village is situated north from the Pokhara valley which offers gorgeous views of golden rice terraces and the spectacular mountains. The village offers a wonderful view of mountain, nature, landscape and awe-inspiring scenery. A different class of migratory birds visits the village, making it a seasonal bird-watching spot. The Gurungs are the inhabitants of Dhampus. Trekkers usually stay here as a halting point on the route to the Annapurna region. You’ll have excellent views of Machhapuchhare (6,691m) and several mountains in the Annapurna Himalayan Range.
Day 6 Sarangkot (1,600m)
We’ll have breakfast at the lodge and afterwards tour the village. Sarangot is one of the finest hang-gliding areas in the world so, if you get a chance, enjoy watching them.
You’ll see Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna (8,091) and Manaslu (8,163) and even Phewa Lake and the city of Pokhara in the distance. If it’s clear you’ll see sunset over the city.
Day 7 Pokhara
In Sarangkot we’ll get up early and experience the view of sunrise over Pokhara and watch the sun light the peaks of the high mountains and travel down the triangular apex. It’s an astonishing experience.
Later we’ll drive to Pokhara and you’ll have time to enjoy Phewa Lake. If you fancy it you can hike around the lake.
The Tal Barahi Temple is situated on an island in the lake.
Day 8 Pokhara
In Pokhara we will have breakfast, and enjoy a tour of the city with our local guide. You’ll visit the Tibetan refugee Camp, the Mountain museum and the Gurkha museum, plus a selection of temples.
The lake, second biggest in Nepal, is famous for the reflection of Macchapucchre and other peaks in the Annapurna range on its surface.
